How safe are safes?
Are antique Safes fireproof?
A lot of old safes have brass plaques or signs which say "fire proof" so its only right to assume they are fireproof. Most antique safes have thick walls and were intended to be fire resistant, but there was no standardized fire rating system when they were built, so they cannot be considered to be “fire proof safes”. Some hold up very well, but there is no way to predict how long an antique will last in a fire.
Are antique safe secure?
We think old/vintage safes are a great addition to your home interior or business to keep your valuables safe. Old safes can boast various levels of protection due to the strong and high-quality materials they are made of. In our experience, Chubbs and Tann safes are extremely well built for their size and age. That’s not to dismiss the other manufacturers, they are all secure and solid, but Chubbs and Tann stand out. They are built with tough steel and some of the locking mechanisms can be very complex. However, sometimes these locks can cause some inconveniences and problems due to their age.
Are antique safe Insurance approved?
To the best of our knowledge, insurance companies wont recognise an antique safe because none will hold any certificate against any level of attack. These old safes were built early to mid 1900s when there was no standardisation in place. New safes go through laboratory conditions to test their level of strength and fire rating which insurance companies insist they have. These Old safes are far more than just a safe, they are a little piece of history and will look amazing for another 100 years plus.
