This is a very special box. It was looking a bit tired when we first saw the box, but we could see she could be something very rare and special. The history behind this box is wonderful:-
It came with the original worn-out notebook which slips into the lid of the box, inside the notebook was some early writing with date April 28th 1888. The key also had a label attached with "Key of tin box in bureau of uncle Berties study at The Warren House, Wotton-Under-Edge, in which his private papers are kept. 21 Feb 1946"
We stripped the box down to metal, ironed out all the dints and imperfections to provide smooth surfaces to apply our design. We chose a vintage black base colour with a detailed woven design in metallic grey on all sides but we have made it very subtle by fading the edges. After the airbrush work we apply fine gold pinstripes following the original design and then applied may coats of gloss lacquer. Inside, we chose a bright sunburst red/orange and also adding matching suede fabric where possible. The original crown patent inkwells are in perfect condition. We replaced the notebook with an Aspinal of London leather journal and had it tailored to match the original notebook size to fit into the lid. The journal now allows for slim refill notebooks to be inserted. All combined it makes for an amazing piece of rare furniture, which would look wonderful on any home or high end office desk.
Pictures show the box with a Montblanc Meisterstuck 149 Gold-Coated fountain pen and inkwells. This is available also at extra cost. Please contact for price
