Safe Places

John Port, Manchester 070

£3,750.00 GBP

Its Poker night.....

John Port safes are very well built, they are solid and heavy for their size. This one has a lovely brass plaque, and door molding/trim which makes the safe stand out. This safe was originally red, so we thought we would design this one based on its original colour.

We pushed our artistic talents on this one, to see what could be achieved and i think its come out looking stunning. An awful lot of work has gone into each side of this safe, even the back. The main base colour is in a  dark metallic perl red, which we feathered all the edges to give the safe its vintage look. We then added a lighter metallic perl red for the ghost pattern and graphics, then various blends and details were added with the airbrush, then we added gold boarders to finish the overall theme. Each side has detailed graphics, the top has 4x Aces, front has Ace of Spades, left side has the Queen of Hearts, right side King of Hearts, The back has Jack of Hearts even the inside of the door has the Joker and they all are within a decorative ghost pattern..

This safe is a true one off.

History: John Port of Manchester was a notable safe maker active in the 19th century, with records of his work extending back to at least 1840. His safes were highly regarded for their fire-resistant qualities and were constructed using hand-formed steel, which contributed to both their security and durability.
John Port’s safes often featured brass plates bearing the City of Manchester Arms—specifically the lion and unicorn motif—which became a hallmark of his craftsmanship. His workshop was located on Mill Street in Ancoats, Manchester.
While not as large as the leading national safe manufacturers, John Port was recognised among the important regional safe makers of the Victorian era. His products are now valued for their historical charm and as collectible examples of early British safe-making

finished in a deep red suede adding to its overall wow factor.

The safe has its original key and 2 spares.

Please note: Safes of this age, approximately 100years old will show signs of their age and build, even after our restoration. We believe each safe has its own character, and thats what makes them special.  If you purchase one of our safes, its not a NEW safe, they were built without modern tools,  you will see imperfections, ie. the hinges are metal on metal (no bearings) so they may squeak and some may scratch some paintwork at the bottom hinge.
