Safe Places

J.Cartwright & Son, West Bromwich 087

£0.00 GBP

Restored to a customers specification.

This safe was chosen from my stock and the customer wanted a simple clean design. Cartwright safes are very popular and we come across them regularly, This one is a nice size and has a nice Cartwright plaque. We painted the outside on our classic vintage black and complimented the design with an Aqua suede interior.

History: J. Cartwright & Son of West Bromwich was a prominent manufacturer of iron safes in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The company was established in 1844 by John Cartwright and operated from the Phoenix Works on Roebuck Street, West Bromwich. The firm became known for producing robust, fireproof safes, which are still found as antiques today, often bearing plaques stating “J. Cartwright & Son, West Bromwich, Est. 1840” or “Established 1844”.

Please note: Safes of this age, approximately 100years old will show signs of their age and build, even after our restoration. We believe each safe has its own character, and thats what makes them special.  If you purchase one of our safes, its not a NEW safe, they were built without modern tools,  you will see imperfections, ie. the hinges are metal on metal (no bearings) so they may squeak and some may scratch some paintwork at the bottom hinge.
