Safe Places

George Price, Wolverhampton 051

£0.00 GBP

Restored to a customers specification. We found this stunning safe on our travels and put it into store, within days of its arrival a customers chose it from our stock and agree to commission a restoration. Credit to the customer for their design brief, and keeping the safe to its original colours and logos.

The exterior is painted in dark red and black. The inside is in a aqua blue as it was originally, and we've added some aqua suede for a wow factor. The logos were a real challenge, the originals were far to deteriorated to copy exactly so we used what we had to create a very similar logo using the same colours and dimensions. We used six colours for the logo but i think you will agree the end result is beautiful.

The locks are fully working and supplied with original keys and new spare keys. All brass is cleaned and polished to our usual high standards.

History: George Price of Wolverhampton ran one of Victorian Britain’s best‑known safe‑making firms, noted for fire‑ and thief‑resistant safes and a long industrial life under his name.
Around 1840: George Price establishes his safe‑making business in Wolverhampton, later trading as the Cleveland Safe and Lock Works and specialising in wrought‑iron fire‑ and thief‑proof safes for bankers and jewellers.
1850s–1870s: He develops patented “fire and thief proof” safes, promotes them through public tests and exhibitions, and becomes a prominent rival to other major makers such as Milner, even attracting national attention through highly publicised gunpowder tests.
Late 19th–early 20th century: The firm continues as George Prices Safe Co., supplying safes, strong‑room doors and steel shelving to banks and insurance companies, before eventually being absorbed into larger Wolverhampton engineering groups in the 20th century.

Design Theme: Restoration to customers brief

Please note: Safes of this age, approximately 100years old will show signs of their age and build, even after our restoration. We believe each safe has its own character, and thats what makes them special.  If you purchase one of our safes, its not a NEW safe, they were built without modern tools,  you will see imperfections, ie. the hinges are metal on metal (no bearings) so they may squeak and some may scratch some paintwork at the bottom hinge.
